In modern industrial applications, the demands on small-diameter corrugated tubing have grown exponentially. In fields ranging from automotive protective wiring harnesses and multi-layer PA fuel transfer conduits to sterile medical ventilator breathing systems, these components must withstand intense fatigue, temperature changes, and aggressive chemical environments. Fabricating tubes that meet these requirements calls for highly precise control over polymer rheology, heat transfer, and mechanical extrusion forming.

1. Single-Wall and Multi-Layer Extrusion Kinetics

Understanding polymer behavior under high shear conditions is essential for successful corrugated tube production. BAOD Extrusion systems feature advanced screw designs with optimized L/D ratios (specifically engineered up to 32:1 or 35:1 for engineering plastics like PA12, TPV, and PVDF). These configurations ensure optimal melt temperature uniformity and prevent shear-induced degradation. In co-extrusion systems, such as our multi-layer PA smooth/corrugated hose line, feedblock design ensures precise polymer layer distribution, ensuring consistent barrier properties and adhesive layer stability without flow instabilities.

2. Vacuum Calibration and Dynamic Corrugator Forming

Developing a consistent corrugated profile requires precise management of heat and pressure. Using vacuum-assisted forming within the corrugation blocks allows for tight dimensional control, especially for high-speed runs. By drawing the hot extrudate firmly into the mold blocks, the vacuum ensures highly defined, consistent corrugation shapes and uniform wall thicknesses. BAOD's high-speed single-wall corrugators are equipped with water-cooled block tracks and premium alloy blocks, keeping tolerances tight even at high extrusion speeds.
