In modern interventional medicine, medical catheters are critical tools. They enable procedures from simple fluid delivery to complex neurovascular interventions and coronary balloon angioplasties. The performance of these devices depends heavily on the quality of the initial extrusion process. Medical catheter extrusion is not just standard plastic shaping; it is a specialized discipline that requires deep knowledge of polymer rheology, mechanical design, and closed-loop process monitoring.

1. Advanced Polymers & Fluoroplastics in Catheter Architecture

Different clinical applications require specific material properties. For example, a tracking microcatheter needs a highly flexible distal tip coupled with a rigid proximal shaft to ensure excellent pushability and torque transmission. To achieve this, medical engineers use advanced thermoplastic elastomers and fluoropolymers:
