High-Purity PFA Tube Extrusion: The Frontier of Fluid Systems

Processing Perfluoroalkoxy (PFA) presents mechanical and metallurgical challenges that standard extruders cannot handle. PFA exhibits exceptional thermal stability and chemical resistance, yet at processing temperatures ranging from 350°C to 400°C, fluoropolymers release micro-amounts of highly corrosive hydrogen fluoride (HF) gas. Without specialized machine metallurgy, standard extruder components degrade rapidly, causing catastrophic contamination of the extruded tube.

Our custom PFA tube extrusion lines address this through specialized material science. All melt-contact areas—including the screw, barrel, die head, and calibration tooling—are constructed using premium nickel-based alloys like Hastelloy C-276 or Inconel 625. This prevents chemical degradation of the machinery and guarantees the absolute purity of the output tubing, making it compliant with SEMI F57 guidelines for ultra-pure semiconductor water transport.

Precision Tolerances & Calibration

For semiconductor wet benches and chemical dosing lines, wall thickness uniformity and inner surface smoothness (Ra < 0.1 μm) are critical. Fluctuations in tube concentricity lead to weak spots susceptible to burst pressures or chemical accumulation.

Micro-Vacuum Regulation System

By incorporating closed-loop laser monitoring linked directly to the vacuum calibration chamber and puller tension, our line achieves a dimension control tolerance of ±0.03 mm on both inner and outer diameters.

Why are standard nitrided screws unsuitable for PFA extrusion?
At temperatures between 350°C and 400°C, fluoropolymers release micro-amounts of corrosive hydrogen fluoride (HF) gas. This gas degrades standard nitrided or bimetallic steel screws, causing chrome peeling and metal-ion contamination of the processed tube. To prevent this, PFA extrusion lines require screws, barrels, and tooling made from high-nickel alloys like Hastelloy C-276 or Inconel 625.
How does the line maintain dimensional tolerances of ±0.03 mm?
We integrate closed-loop feedback systems using dual-axis laser gauges. These gauges measure the outer diameter and concentricity of the tube in real-time, communicating directly with the PLC.
